The great mystery of the universe»

I have two younger brothers. That’s not the mystery, though. Between 1995 and 1996, there was a thing they would do, and that’s the mystery: On Sunday mornings, we would all watch Nicktoons. The brothers (let’s call them Matt and Dan) were at the age where they fought all the time, and also trolled each other all the time. One of Dan’s greatest trolls would happen during a certain commercial that aired in between cartoons, now lost to the sands of time (the mystery). At a certain point in this certain commercial, Dan would yell this:

“OTT!”

That was weird enough. But as the weeks progressed, Matt would get anxious as soon as the commercial started, and grow more agitated until the moment of truth (and mystery).

Matt: “don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it…”,
Dan: “OTT!”
Matt: “DANG IT!”
Dan: trollface.gif

But now, many years later, none of us can remember what started it all. Just the “OTT!”

List of legendary creatures from Japan

The best part is how specific some of these creatures are. My favorites, in list form (of course):

  • Kappa—a famous water monster with a water-filled head and a love of cucumbers
  • Kurage-no-hinotama—a jellyfish which floats through the air as a fireball
  • Makura-gaeshi—the pillow-moving spirit (this one seems to like to torment me nightly!)
  • Tankororin—an unharvested persimmon which becomes a monster
  • Tōfu-kozō—a spirit child carrying a block of tofu
  • Uma-no-ashi—a horse’s leg which dangles from a tree and kicks passersby (I want to come back as one of these!)

Long walks on the beach, sunsets

I got all hopped up on Red Stripe and tropical drinks and too much sun until taking pictures of toy robots on the beach sounded like a great idea. Also, my li’l brudda got MARRIED!

Dan is hella married

(I was supposed to “blog this” yesterday, damn)
