Recently I heard the old smokestack downtown was going to be demolished. On the way home yesterday, I stopped by with my crappy phone camera for a quick pic:

You know, just something to tide me over until I could get my real camera the next morning. SO, the next morning (aka “noon”) I grabbed my real camera and headed downtown, only to see this:

It was barely morning—on a weekend, no less—and they were already done knocking the damn thing over!

When I was a kid (and the world was sepia-colored), this was a huge asian grocery. Later they were a flower shop. Now, empty.

NOTE, FROM THE FUTURE: This building now has historical landmark status! It’s also going to have apartments that I will never be able to afford. Yay?

These are some awesome warning signs by the fountain in West Side Park. A little unnecessary, since the fountain is not really that large or deep, but hey. These were gone for a while, because they are a popular theft item.

First two pics are recent. These are brand new—replaced just this year—and still intact. Last one is from 2005, the last of the old ones (stolen shortly after this pic).

Also, I feel like this a lot: drowning in two inches of water. Frowning emo-ticon goes here.

This used to be a downtown movie theater (back when that was a common occurrence). Now it’s the Children’s Science Museum, which is a pretty decent fate for a former downtown movie theater.

This is my new bab(b)y. It was $50 cheaper than the Canon equivalent, and got tons of good reviews (as long as you exclude all the hardcore “super-pro” types compaining that it won’t withstand a nuclear blast). Plus, macro mode and free lens hood.

Sodium gods, let thy ramen noodles give me the strength to heft this mighty lens!
